Rental Car Scams to Watch For

It’s time to head out and travel a bit. You aren’t the only one thinking that. In fact, so many more people are heading out and renting cars that rental cards have become a target of scams. You may think you found a great price on a rental car, but the wool might be over your eyes. Scammers have gone as far as creating legitimate looking websites and customer service phone numbers to see if you’ll take the bait. Stay safe with these tips:
  • Research the rental car company for words like scam, complaint, or review.
  • Be leery if the company’s contact info is not easily available or if the ads look sketchy.
  • Hover over an on-line ad to double-check the URL before you click.
  • If you have concerns about the rental company, call the company and ask questions.
  • Pay with a credit card if possible. Legitimate companies do not require paying with a gift card or prepaid debit card.
  • Remember, if the deal sounds too good to be true, it likely is.
